Malta House is proud to celebrate two meaningful milestones that reaffirm the heart of our mission. It is with joy and gratitude that we share this good news with you — our cherished supporters. Many of you were with us when Malta House was just a dream, and you’ve helped shape that dream into the life-affirming reality it is today.

First Milestone: In December 1998, our doors opened for the very first time. Just weeks later, in January 1999, we welcomed our first baby born at Malta House — Joshua (above, to the left, with Gwen, a member of our still-fledgling staff). Last month, in May 2025, Joshua returned to visit us, 26 years later (above, to the right, with Gwen and Malta House founder Michael O'Rourke). Hearing his story — his trials, triumphs, and deep hopes for the future — was a powerful reminder that God works in extraordinary ways. Now a young man in the military and building a career in finance, Joshua’s life is a testament to the lasting care and hope that inspires everything we do.

Second Milestone: In June 2003, baby Francesca was born into our care — a gentle, determined spirit from the very beginning. In May 2025, Francesca reached a major milestone of her own, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree.  Her journey reflects courage, resilience, and a deep commitment to giving back. Inspired by those who once supported her, she now dreams of lifting up others and making a lasting difference in her community. Francesca’s achievement is not only personal — it’s a shared celebration of every volunteer, donor, mentor, and her mom, Philomene, who believed in her.

Philomene was mentored by Melanie Barnard, Dame of Malta. Melanie is the longest-serving mentor in the history of Malta House.
