Volunteer Coordinator and Community Relations

We are looking for a detail-oriented and focused Volunteer Coordinator to be responsible for our database of volunteers and volunteer opportunities. The Volunteer Coordinator's responsibilities include recruiting and training new volunteers, keeping a database of volunteer information and skills, matching volunteers to opportunities that suit their skills, keeping volunteers informed, and conveying the organization's mission to the public. Another key responsibility is growing community awareness of our mission and growing community involvement by extending the opportunity for monetary donations with all collection drives.

The volunteer coordinator will exhibit strong leadership qualities to bear the overall responsibility for recruitment, training, engagement, and retention of volunteers. Working closely with the program team, s/he will support daily house activities and recruit facilitators for parenting, enrichment, and life skills development for current residents, graduate moms, and community outreach families. The volunteer coordinator will ensure Malta House programs are supported by adequate numbers of trained and knowledgeable volunteers.  S/he will interface with corporate, faith, and community groups to solicit and schedule group volunteer opportunities, manage volunteer communications and plan and execute volunteer appreciation initiatives and monitor the overall health of the volunteer program.

Responsibilities:

  • Interview interested volunteers and complete the recruitment process
  • Recruit MH Ambassadors for future speaking engagements and community outreach
  • Review and scan documents received to record the expiration date for Driver’s license, Car Registration and Insurance
  • Lead Monthly Volunteer Orientation for new recruits
  • Send a welcome email to new volunteers and add them to the groups of interested our sign-up Genius
  • Send a weekly email to all staff listing new volunteers, including a picture, and their areas of interest
  • Maintain Sign-Up Genius and share schedule updates with the team
  • Update monthly volunteer newsletter.
  • Run Monthly Reports of activity volunteers and call active volunteers that have not submitted their service hours
  • Supervise all volunteer activities including Saturday Community Outreach
  • Submit all in-kind donations
  • Offer tours and community involvement to in-kind donors
  • Host year Volunteer appreciation event
  • Engage our community followers with volunteer opportunities and offer monetary donations
  • Host a VIRTUS training when there are large groups of volunteers to recruit
  • Respond to interested volunteers daily. Resend invitations monthly to interested volunteers. Remove after the third attempt
  • Download the weekly online application, then run a report of interested volunteers to ensure VIRTUS training and Background check is completed


Volunteer Coordinator Requirements:

  • Minimum Associate Degree
  • Experience in volunteering and recruitment
  • Working knowledge of databases
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organization and team-building skills
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends
